      Age of Traditional Medicine Will Start With WHO Centre : Prime Minister

      Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the establishment of the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (GCTM) here will usher in an age of traditional medicine globally. Narendra Modi with the World Health Organization’s Director-General Dr Tredos Ghebreyesus and Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, laid the foundation stone for the centre.

      Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the WHO-Global Centre for Traditional Medicine at Jamnagar in Gujarat in the presence of WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Mauritius PM Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.

      After laying the foundation stone of the traditional medicine centre, the prime minister said this centre has open the door of age of traditional medicine in the world.

      PM Modi thank Dr Tedros and the United Nations for accepting India’s proposal and declaring 2023 as the International Millet Year.

      Prime Minister Narendra Modi Said :

      “Our proposal of giving importance to millet has been accepted by UN and year 2023 will be celebrated as International Millet Year”.

      “I’ve known Dr Tedros for a long time & every time we have met, he has mentioned his learnings from his Indian teachers with such prestige, expressed his sentiments with such cheer, that his affection for India is visible in the form of an Institute today.”

      Centre government will start the age of traditional medicine in the world in the next 25 years, Narendra Modi said, listing various benefits of traditional medicine.

      PM Narendra Modi also thank the United Nations for accepting India’s proposal and declaring 2023 as the International Millet Year.

      Dr Ghebreyesus greeted people at the inauguration of the centre in Gujarati.

      WHO chief Dr Tredos Ghebreyesus Said :

      “This is a truly global project… this means that India will go the world and the whole world will come to India.”

      “WHO-Global Centre for Traditional Medicine that we are launching will help to harness the power of science to strengthen evidence-based traditional medicine. I’m grateful to PM Modi and the Government of India for their leadership in supporting this important initiative,”.

      Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Union AYUSH minister Sarbananda Sonowal were also present in the function.
