When we think about fast food, we probably think about McDonald’s. Due to its quick-service burgers and fries, the restaurant has the industry leader since it open its first outlet in 1940.
There are some very important rules employees have to follow and a few for customers, too.

Burgers can only sit for 15 minutes.
According to a former employee, burgers made with “regular” meat get thrown out after 15 minutes, while higher-quality meats get toss after 60 minutes, and chicken nuggets can only sit for 20 minutes.
Burgers have to be assemble in a specific order.
The restaurant says it makes a huge difference in the taste of the food.

There’s no Official Secret Menu.
As the internet is flooded with rumors of a McDonald’s “secret menu,” according to Mental Floss, an official list of all off-menu items doesn’t really exist and is not given to employees.
In addition to following the instructions of their manager and the offender, employees are told in a policies handout to be “observant and calm,” not to resist, and to prioritize themselves over the money in the register because “money can be replaced.
Only early Customers get the McMuffin.
Many locations temporarily treat customers to an all-day breakfast menu, but that had to be put on pause during the COVID-19 pandemic to “simplify operations.”
Now, employees at most locations accept breakfast orders between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m. every day except Fridays, when breakfast is serve until 11:30 a.m.

The McD offers free meals during lunch or shift breaks at some of their locations.
According to reports, certain franchises offer employees up to three free items per shift.

After one month of being an employee, McDonald’s staff is given an Employee Discount Card to use when they’re not working.

Employees can’t dole out food to friends or family without risking immediate termination.
Always skip the tip.
McDonald’s has a no tipping policy.
If a customer happens to leave a tip, the money goes straight into the Ronald McDonald House donation box.
There are lots of policies in place for employees who have to miss a shift so just not showing up is unacceptable. According to the company’s workplace policy, “a no-call no-show means you have abandoned your job”
Employees can’t switch between different jobs.
To uphold safety and hygiene standards, McDonald’s separates their employees between cashier duties and food preparation duties.
This procedure ensures that an employee who handles money doesn’t touch and potentially contaminate food.
There is a dress code.
Employees are given a crew hat and a few crew shirts when they start and are expect to wear black pants with their uniform.
To keep things as polish as possible, cargo pants, leggings, and jeans aren’t allow.
It includes everything from what kind of jewelry an employee can wear to how many piercings they can have.
However, accommodations for religious beliefs or medical conditions are allow.
Personal hygiene is must.
Personal hygiene, according to McDonald’s crew policies, means adequate deodorant, daily showers or baths, clean hair and nails, and brushed teeth.
Employees must wash their hands at least once every hour with antimicrobial soap, and some countries require this once every 30 minutes.
No long nails allowed.
Employees must keep their nails short and natural.

No beards.
Not only are beards met with a resounding no, but there are specific growth lengths and restrictions on sideburns, goatees, and mustaches, too.
Do not use phone.
Cell phones and all other electronic devices are off limits during the work day.
That means devices can’t be seen, used, or heard during a shift.
Teens are welcome.
People as young as 15 years old can work at McDonald’s.
Some states can even hire 14-year olds but they’ll need to show a work permit.
Watch your kids on the playground.
In addition to the sanitary requirements of the play area children must remove their shoes, but keep their socks on, all kids must be supervise by an adult while on the equipment.
Employees get a well-deserved break.
A 30-minute break after working 3.5 hours or more.
Recycle
McDonald’s wants to help the planet, one recycle paper bag at a time.
The company set a goal to recycle all guest packaging in 100% of McDonald’s restaurants by 2025.
Only customers can use the restrooms.
