World Hypertension day is celebrated on 17th May each year. World Hypertension day is perceive annually to raise awareness about the symptoms of hypertension. This day as World Hypertension Day is to educate the people and increase awareness of hypertension which is commonly known as high blood pressure.
High blood pressure or Hypertension occurs when the blood pressure rises to an unhealthy level.
Narrow arteries may cause more resistance and increase blood pressure.
This force can cause damage to blood vessels and resultant to heart attack, brain stroke, kidney damage, or nerve damage.
What is Hypertension
Blood pressure is the force use by circulating blood against the walls of the body’s arteries.
Hypertension occures when blood pressure is too high.
Non-modifiable risk factors include a family history of hypertension, age over 65 years, and co-existing diseases such as diabetes or kidney disease.
Blood pressure is written as two numbers.
- First systolic number represents the pressure in blood vessels when the heart contracts or beats.
- Second diastolic number represents the pressure in the vessels when the heart rests between beats.
Types of Hypertension
There are two types of Hypertension disease :
- Primary hypertension.
- Secondary hypertension.
World Hypertension Day 2021
The theme of World Hypertension Day for 2021 is “Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer“,
There are two critical components to increase awareness of hypertension according to the World Hypertension League (WHL) organisation
- First is to “establish high-capacity community screening programs for recognition of high BP in those at risk“
- Second is to “promote the routine measurement of BP by a health-care professional at all clinical encounters.“
World Hypertension Day was first celebrated in May 2005.
The main motive behind the celebration of the World Hypertension Day is to promote public awareness of hypertension and to encourage people of all countries to prevent and control.
