Calculating India’s Semi-Final Chances in the World Cup 2023 Following Their Victory Over Australia

India start their 2023 World Cup journey in a bang by a six-wicket victory over Australia in Chennai. This win has given India a superb start with two points on the board. Indian team reach the target with 52 balls left with a big boost to their net run rate too.

As of now India are 5th on the table with two points and a NRR of +0.883.

With a victory over tournament favorites England and Australia, India and New Zealand will find themselves ideally place in the race to reach the semi-finals.

As India have start the campaign in style and the tournament is a long one, and the Rohit Sharma-led team still has a long fight in order to reach the knockout stages, let do permutation and combination to reach the knockout stages of the tournament.

As it is tough to make an exact estimate of how many wins any team will need to reach the final four but can make an estimate from the 2019 standings.

The last edition of the competition held in England was play in the same format.

The tournament had seen New Zealand qualify for the knockouts with 11 points in fourth place after winning five league stage games.

India had finish at the top of the standings with 15 points (7 wins) and England and Australia also qualified with 7 and 6 wins.

And New Zealand made it with 5 wins, it is worth noting that Pakistan miss out with the same number of points on the net run rate (NRR).

It is also worth remembering that 4 matches were wash out in the 2019 edition, which is not to happen this time around with the monsoon season subsiding in India.
