US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warn consumers not to purchase and to immediately stop using Dr. Berne’s MSM Drops 5% Solution and LightEyez MSM Eye Drops, Eye Repair due to bacterial contamination, fungal contamination, or for both.
The eye drops have methylsulfonylmethane or MSM, organosulfur compounds as an active ingredient.
As per FDA report, Dr. Berne’s has agreed to recall all its MSM Drops 5% Solution after tests show that the eye drops were contaminate with bacteria and fungus.
While LightEyez MSM Eye Drops, Eye Repair which were found to have four types of bacteria in them hasn’t respond to the FDA’s request to discuss or recall their product.
Dr. Berne’s MSM Drops 5% Solution was contaminate with Bacillus, Exophiala and LightEyez MSM Eye Drops, Eye Repair was contaminate with Pseudomonas, Mycobacterium, Mycolicibacterium, Methylorubrum.
FDA recommends that consumers discard these products as using contaminate products could result in infections.
While some of these infections could be minor but these could also turn out to be serious vision-threatening infections.
So, if not taken proper care, it could eventually become life-threatening.
‘FDA conduct sampling and testing based on these products’ intend use in the eyes, and due to the industry’s recent manufacturing issues with eye drops.
FDA’s testing show the products were contaminate with microbes and were not sterile.
Under the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, eye drops must be sterile to be safe for use.
