13 of the 14 onboard the Indian Air Force helicopter Mi-17V5 died in the air crash. Those who lost their lives in the incident included General Rawat’s wife Madhulika Rawat. This was the most high-profile air crash involving a military officer in India.
India’s first Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday in Coonoor near Wellington town in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu. CDS Bipin Rawat was flying from Sulur to Coonoor along with 13 others when the helicopter crash.

As YS Rajasekhara Reddy was flying in a Bell 430 helicopter which crash due to bad weather conditions.
Dorjee Khandu in 2011
Dorjee Khandu was the Arunachal Pradesh chief minister when he died in an air crash in 2011.
As Dorjee Khandu was flying in a Pawan Hans helicopter on 30th April 2011 when the aircraft lost contact with the ground control.
After five days of search, the wreckage was found on 4th May 2021.
Dorjee Khandu was the second chief minister who died in an air crash.
