      BCCI 91st Annual General Meeting : Team India not to travel to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023 | Approval to Conduct Women’s IPL

      The 91st Annual General Meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was held on 18th October, 2022, in Mumbai. As Asia Cup 2023 was suppose to be held in Pakistan and there were questions surrounding whether the Indian cricket team would travel to Pakistan to participate in the tournament.

      While there were many reports that the Team India were ready to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup next year, Asian Cricket Council President and BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirm that India will not be travelling to their neigbouring country for the Asia Cup 2023.

      Jay Shah has confirm, that the Asia Cup 2023 will likely be held at a neutral venue.

      This comes as a result of cricket relations being strain due to political tensions between the two countries.

      India had last tour Pakistan for a bilateral series in 2005-06 under the leadership of Rahul Dravid.

      India and Pakistan have not play a bilateral cricket series since 2012-13 when Pakistan had tour India for three T20Is and as many ODIs.

      Since then, both teams have not play in bilateral series, and the teams have just met in world ICC events or Asia Cup.

      Matches between the two sides are always highly anticipate and stadiums go full house.

      The tickets of the two team’s T20 World Cup 2022 on 23rd October 2022 were sold out within hours of its release.

      India play Pakistan a couple of times in Dubai during the Asia Cup 2022 earlier this year but the games were held at a neutral venue.

      BCCI Gives Its Approval to Conduct Women’s IPL

      Among other major decisions taken at the BCCI’s AGM in Mumbai, the board also approve to conduct the Women’s Indian Premier League.

      The WIPL will replace the shorter Women’s T20 Challenge which took place with IPL over the last few years.

      WIPL announcement was made after a host of key decisions were taken during the AGM including the appointment of BCCI’s new president Roger Binny who succeeds Sourav Ganguly into the role.

      While an official window is yet be announce, various media reports in the past have point to the one available in March next year when the Women’s IPL’s first season could be held.

      As it is expect to be a five-team contest and will reportedly get underway soon after the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.

      As per reports, each team will have a roster of 18 players and of these at most six can be overseas recruits.

      Also, it’s possible that an eleven could feature as many as five foreign players as oppose to the limit of for the men’s IPL.

      The main point is that one of these five players must be from an Associate nation.

      BCCI plans to conduct 22 matches through the season.

      An announcement regarding the window/schedule will be made later.

      In the meeting the senior Men’s Future Tour Programs for 2023-2027 and senior Women’s Future Tour Programs for 2022-2025 were also approve during the AGM.

      While, the BCCI is unlikely to nominate its own candidate for the post of ICC Chairman who is to be elect during the board meeting in Melbourne next month.

      As far as India’s representative to the ICC is concern, it will be decide by the office-bearers of BCCI.

      There was no discussion on the ICC chairmanship.

      The deadline to nominate a candidate is 20th October 2022 and the ICC Board will meet from 11th to 13th November.

      • The following members were elect as the new Office Bearers of the BCCI:
      1. President: Mr. Roger Binny
      2. Vice President: Mr. Rajeev Shukla
      3. Secretary: Mr. Jay Shah
      4. Joint Secretary: Mr. Devajit Saikia
      5. Treasurer:  Mr. Ashish Shelar
      • One representative of the General Body was elect in the Apex Council of the BCCI:
      1. Mr. MKJ Majumdar.
      • Two representatives in the Indian Premier League Governing Council were elect:
      1. Mr. Arun Singh Dhumal; and
      2. Mr. Avishek Dalmiya.
      • The audited accounts for FY 2021-22 were pass and adopt by the General Body.
      • The Annual Budget of FY 2022-23 was approve by the General Body.
      • The Senior Men’s Future Tour Programs for 2023-2027 and Senior Women’s Future Tour Programs for 2022-2025 were approve by the General Body.
      • The General Body approve to conduct the Women’s Indian Premier League.
      • The members of the General Body appreciate the efforts of the outgoing office bearers, IPL Governing Council Chairman and members, and Councillors for the work undertaken in their term.
