Viacom18 bags the BCCI Media Rights for Television and Digital Broadcast for $720 million. Also Viacom18 has acquire the global media rights to Indian cricket (both digital and broadcast) for Rs. 5963 crore for the years 2023-2028.
Apart from the IPL, these rights apply to all cricket play in India by the BCCI, both international and domestic.
In an e-auction held by the BCCI, Viacom18 outbid two competitors, Disney Star and Sony, in both digital and television categories.
Viacom18 offer Rs. 3101 crore for digital rights and Rs. 2862 crore for broadcast rights.
The proposals from Disney Star and Sony have yet to be confirm.
As Viacom18, which already holds the IPL’s digital rights as well as the digital and TV rights to the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

This new agreement between Viacom18 and the BCCI amounts to an average per-match value of Rs. 67.75 crore, which is 12.92% more than the Rs. 60 crore paid by Star India to the BCCI in the previous cycle.
Disney Star India, had won worldwide rights to India’s games for Rs. 6138 crore for a total of 102 international matches from 2018 to 2023 cycle.
The BCCI list 88 international matches for the rights period this time.
Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), said that Viacom18 had obtain the BCCI rights for both linear and digital platforms for the next five years.
This development marks the end of BCCI’s association with Disney Star, which had famously retain the rights in 2018 with a stunning agreement worth Rs. 6,138 crore.
