      Centre Government Issues Guidelines for Booster Doses and Vaccination of Children | Details Inside

      The government release official guidelines on Covid-19 vaccination for 15 to 18-year-olds as well as ‘precaution doses’ for frontline workers and people above the age of 60 years with co-morbidities.

      Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announce that children in the 15-18 age group would begin receiving Covid-19 vaccines from January 3 onwards and booster shots would be administere to the aforementione select groups from January 10 onwards.

      Union Health Ministry on Monday 27th December 2022 issues fresh guidelines for COVID-19 vaccination of children between 15-18 years and precaution dose for health care and frontline workers, and 60+ age group with comorbidities.

      The guidelines come days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his address to the nation amid rising Omicron cases, announced COVID vaccination rollout for children aged 15-18 and precaution doses for health and frontline pandemic workers as well as senior citizens with co-morbidities.

      Vaccines for Childrens

      As per the government’s guidelines, children in the age-group of 15 to 18 years are eligible only for the Covaxin Covid-19 vaccine from 3rd January, 2022 onwards.

      The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) had grant emergency use authorisation to indigenously-developed Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for children above 12 years with certain conditions.

      It is the second vaccine to receive the DCGI nod for use among those below 18 years after Zydus Cadila’s needle-free Covid-19 vaccine ZyCoV-D.

      Booster Dose

      From 10th January 2022 onwards, fully vaccinated healthcare and frontline workers as well as people above the age of 60 years with co-morbidities can register for their ‘precaution doses’ or booster shots.

      For those age 60 and above with co-morbidities, the booster dose will be given on doctor’s advice.

      The booster dose can only be taken nine months after the administration of the second dose, the government statement said. “

      The prioritisation and sequencing of this precaution dose would be based on the completion of 9 months i.e. 39 weeks from the date of administration of second dose,”.

      How to Register on Co-WIN?

      Those eligible for ‘precaution doses’ or booster shots will be able to register for the shot via their existing CoWIN account.

      The CoWIN system will alert beneficiaries when they become eligible for the booster shot, that is, when it has been nine months since the administration of the second dose.

      Registration for booster shots can be done online or on-site.

      The details of administration of the precaution dose will be reflect in the beneficiary’s vaccine certificate.

      Children in the age group of 15 to 18 years will have to register on the CoWIN portal.

      They can register through an existing CoWIN account or using a new one with a unique mobile number.

      Appointments for children can be book online or on-site.

      The new government guidelines will come into effect on 3rd January 2022 and be review from time to time, as per government.

      Health Ministry’s Guidelines :

      • COVID vaccination for children aged between 15-18 will commence from 3rd January, 2022.
      • Children will be given only Covaxin doses, India’s first indigenous coronavirus vaccine.
      • The 15-18 age group beneficiaries can get themselves self-register for vaccination on the Cowin app.
      • Health care workers and front-line workers who have already receive two doses of vaccine will start getting the third dose from 10th January, 2022.
      • The prioritization and sequencing of the precaution dose would be base on the completion of 9 months from the date of administration of the second dose of the COVID vaccine.
      • A person aged 60 and above can get the precautionary dose of the COVID-19 vaccine only if they have some comorbidities and will have to present a medical certificate for the same.
      • Beneficiaries can register for the precaution dose via their existing Cowin app.
      • Eligibility of such beneficiaries for the precaution dose will be base on the date of administration of the second dose as record in the Co-WIN system.
      • Registration and appointment services can be access through both, the online and the onsite modes for all the beneficiaries.
      • The details of the administration of the precaution dose will be reflect in the vaccination certificates.
