      Google to Enhance Circle to Search with Text-to-Speech and Introduce Ads in AI Overviews | Details Inside

      Google is gearing up to expand its suite of features across its services, introducing significant enhancements to both its search capabilities and advertising strategies. The Circle to Search tool is set to receive new functionalities, including text-to-speech, which will make searches more accessible and user-friendly.

      Simultaneously, Google plans to test the integration of ads within its recently launched AI Overviews feature in Search, blending advanced technology with commercial opportunities to enhance user engagement and monetization.

      Google’s Circle to Search to Reportedly Get Text-to-Speech Functionality and Many More Features

      Google may bring more features to its AI-power Circle to Search including text-to-speech functionality, as per report suggests.

      The visual lookup feature, first announce in January 2024, allows users to circle, tap or highlight an object on their screen via gestures and search it on the web.

      Google, at its developer conference on 14th May 2024, announce an update for it, equipping the feature with math-solving capabilities.

      A new report now suggests that even more capabilities may soon be arriving with three features tip to be in the works.

      In a report, Android Authority, teaming up with tipster AssembleDebug, reveal that the Circle to Search feature may soon read a select part of the screen out loud.

      The discovery was reportedly made upon carrying out the APK teardown of the Google beta app v15.20.36.29.

      This hints at potential text-to-speech capabilities coming to Circle to Search.

      Two other features, Listen and Select All, may also be introduce, as per report suggests.

      It was also report that both ‘Listen‘ and ‘Select All‘ features might be adopt from Google Lens, where the Listen feature reads a highlight text out loud while the ‘Select Text‘ option may highlight the text present in the image or visible in the camera viewfinder.

      The report also suggest that a ‘Save‘ option might be available to users upon selecting an area of the screen to search.

      Using this option would reportedly save the screenshot in the Save tab on the Google app in an ‘Uploaded Images‘ collection instead of the device’s gallery app, which is usually Google Photos.

      In theory, all of the features that are tip could contribute to the recently introduce ones in Circle to Search.

      Initially only available on the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, it has made its way to other Android smartphones in the last few months.

      Since its introduction, the feature has receive multiple new updates aim at enhancing its capabilities.

      One of the standouts among them is a specialise tool that allows students to solve math and physics problems with step-by-step instructions.

      It uses LearnLM, the recently introduce family of AI Large Language Models (LLM) that are tune for learning, built on Google’s Gemini LLM.

      Google to Soon Test Ads Within Its Recently Launch AI Overviews Feature in Search

      Google is planning to test ads on its recently launch artificial intelligence (AI)-power search experience dub AI Overviews.

      As AI Overviews is a rebrand Search Generative Experience (SGE), which was release as an experimental feature to beta testers in May 2023.

      Now that the feature has made generally available in the US, Google is planning to introduce sponsore content within the experience.

      Whether these ads will be show to a limit number of users or be show to everyone was not reveal by the Google.

      The development was announce by Google in its Ads and Commerce blog post.

      Google said :

      “Soon, we'll start testing Search and Shopping ads in AI Overviews for users in the U.S. They will have the opportunity to appear within the AI Overview in a section clearly labeled as “sponsored” when they're relevant to both the query and the information in the AI Overview.”

      Highlighting the advantage of placing ads within AI Overviews, Google claim that its early testing results have shown that people find ads place above and below the AI-generate summary helpful.

      Currently, advertisers do not need to take any action to feature their ads in this space as Google continues to test its reception.

      It said that advertisers who are running campaigns with the search engine platform under Performance Max and Standard Shopping will be pick for this space.

      Answering concerns raise by some website owners, Google also claim that the links include in AI Overviews get more clicks than those which appear via traditional web listing for a particular query.

      It also claim that users who have access to the AI-generate summaries tend to use Google Search more often than those without it.

      But, Google did not explain if there were any specific criteria for websites to feature their links in this space.

      Google said :

      “As we continue to test and evolve the Search experience, we'll remain focused on sending valuable traffic to publishers and creators,”.

      This development comes just a day after Google reportedly announce that it will create a specific space on smartphones where users will experience immersive content from apps they have not use in a while to bring them back to it.

      This feature is said to be run via Engage SDK and currently, its access is given to 35 major app developers on an invite basis.
