ICC Men’s Cricket Under-19 World Cup is schedule to start on 19th January, 2024. South Africa secure the hosting rights for the tournament, replacing Sri Lanka, who were initially said to host the tournament.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) suspend Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 due to the country’s political interference.
Which led to the rise of South Africa to host the U-19 World Cup for the 3rd time.
A total of 48 matches will be play among 16 teams throughout the 23-day-long tournament.
India hold the most successful record in the tournament’s history, winning U-19 World Cup trophy for 5 times in the past.
India, also the defending champions, are consider the strong favourites for the tournament.
Their win in the U-19 World Cup 2022 in the West Indies saw them defeat England in the finals.
In the ICC U-19 World Cup 2024, the 16 participating teams are divide into groups of 4.
The top 3 teams from each group will advance to the Super 6 stage.
2 groups will emerge in the Super 6 round, each compose of 6 teams.
Group 1 will comprise the top 3 teams from groups A and D and Group 2 will include teams from groups B and C.
The top two teams from each Super 6 group will progress to the semi-finals.
Same, the lower-rank teams will compete in placement games to determine positions 13 through 16.
