      Indian Army’s Sikh Soldiers to get ‘Veer’ Helmet | All You Need to Know About ‘Veer’ Head Cover

      For the first time in India, a Combat Helmet has been design for and dedicate to the Sikh soldiers. This newly design helmet by Global Defense and Homeland Security Company MKU, base in Kanpur, will be easy for a Sikh soldier to wear without difficulty and comfortably over their under-turban cloth, if they wish to do so.

      As oer the company, this helmet is capable of providing all-round ballistic protection against bullets and also fragments of up to Level IIIA.

      `Veer’

      According to MKU Ltd, like all other Kavro ballistic helmets of the company, ‘Veer’ helmet is compatible with MACS (Modular Accessory Connector System).

      MACS is a first of its kind multi-accessory mounting system that enables the head-mounted sensors and modern combat equipment like night vision goggles, cameras on helmets, and communication systems.

      This helmet is not only lightweight; it is anti-fungal, and anti-allergic.

      With excellent shock absorption, this helmet is flame resistant, chemical safe and all weatherproof.

      The company has dedicate this newly design helmet (Model: KAVRO SCH 111 T), to the spirit of valor that Sikh soldiers have embodied for generations only in India but overseas too.

      Kanpur base company has execute one of the largest helmet contracts, for 1.59 Lakh ballistic helmets, for India’s Ministry of Defence.

      Sikh youth have traditionally chosen to serve in the arm forces and central police and paramilitary forces in huge numbers.

      And base on the information available in the public domain, the largest number of Sikh personnel in uniform serves in the Indian Army.

      This means that a Sikh soldier was unable to wear a helmet which could be worn over the under-turban cloth comfortably.

      And this expose them to injuries, often leading to death in some instances.

      Use of Helmets in Armed Forces

      Body armour and helmets have been around since the advent of the musket in the 16th century.

      It has been found that during World War I, up to 75% of all battlefield injuries could have been prevent with the help of effective body armour and helmets.

      Indian Army use World War II helmets until 1974 when fibreglass helmets were gradually introduced.

      These prove ineffective in anti-terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

      Hence, an improvised low-cost solution, the bulletproof patka helmet was design by Major General VK Datta in the early 1990s, and is still the standard issue in counterinsurgency operations.

      It was only in 2018 that 1,58,000 Kevlar-base modern helmets costing Rs 170 crore were procure from Kanpur-base defence company, MKU.

      These too prove to be ineffective against AK-47 steel core bullets used by terrorists.

      A ceramic plate was procure from another firm and use as an add-on.

      It was only in 2020 that the process began to procure 1,00,000 modern helmets worth Rs 500 crore that can stop steel core bullets of AK-47.

      Design of Veer Helmet

      According to the MKU’s Managing Director Neeraj Gupta Said :

      “The turban for a Sikh is his pride. The ‘Veer’ helmet, from our company offers heroic Sikh soldiers the option of safeguarding their body and life while continuing to wear their under-turban cloth.”

      The company has been able to create this one-of-its-kind ballistic helmet tailor made for the Sikh soldiers.

      MKU’s Chairman Manoj Gupta, Said :

      “We observed a need for better head protection for our Sikh troops. The heroes we empower safeguard our freedom, our security and our way of life. And who better to exemplify this spirit of heroism than our Sikh soldiers!”

      Features of Veer Helmet

      According to MKU, Sikh soldiers can comfortably wear the helmet over their under-turban cloth.

      This helmet is the first of its kind across the world as to date, a Sikh soldier was unable to wear a helmet that could be worn over the under-turban cloth comfortably.

      And this exposed them to injuries, often leading to death in some instances.

      Speaking further on the head covering, MKU said that the headcover is lightweight, anti-fungal and anti-allergic.

      It is also weatherproof, chemically safe, flame resistant and has excellent shock absorption.

      Veer helmet, as per the company statement, also comes with the advanced ‘Reduce Helmet Trauma Technology’.

      This helps in providing protection from secondary injuries to the skull.

      The Veer helmet is also fully compatible with Multi Accessory Connector System {MACS} that would enable a soldier to use the latest head-mounted sensors, cameras, torches, communication equipment and night vision devices for their operations.
