UPDATE : OpenAI has Start Expanding “Custom Instructions” Feature to All ChatGPT Users | Details Inside

OpenAI has start expanding “Custom Instructions” to all ChatGPT users. As earlier, the feature was available to ChatGPT Plus paid members. This feature lets users add specific instructions to tweak ChatGPT’s replies based on their preferences.

For example, if you want ChatGPT to reply in bullet points or less than 200 words, you can provide these “Custom Instructions” so that all replies are generate according to the user’s preferences.

Custom preferences can assist users in avoiding the need to repeatedly write the same prompts.

This feature is currently accessible on the ChatGPT web version, and the app for Android and iOS will also receive this feature soon.

In a blog post, OpenAI explains the custom instructions feature lets users “Tailor ChatGPT” as per their preferences.

      As per post :

"ChatGPT will consider your custom instructions for every conversation going forward. The model will consider the instructions every time it responds, so you won't have to repeat your preferences or information in every conversation."

OpenAI explains that the feature can help a teacher craft a “lesson plan” without always specifying to write it for third graders.

Similarly, if you use the AI chatbot to create a grocery list, you can add a custom instruction to always generate a list accounting for six servings.

To use custom features on ChatGPT web, click on your name at the bottom left and select custom instructions.

Add specific prompts, say the type of reply you prefer (long, short, bullets) or the tone (formal or informal).

You can also tell the AI chatbot about yourself for better and more personal replies.

OpenAI’s decision to extend custom instructions to all users comes just weeks after Google introduced a similar feature in Bard.

Google Bard users can now “customise” their answers by making them longer or shorter, among other options.

So, this feature slightly differs from custom preferences, as users can modify the response but cannot add pre-set instructions.

It means users will still need to input the prompts, although they can later adjust the tone using select toggles.

Google Bard may slightly gain an edge after incorporating Google Lens into Bard.

It allows users to upload images on Bard and analyse content and other texts.

ChatGPT also offers a similar feature, though only for paid members.

Microsoft Bing lets users generate replies in different tones, such as “creative“, “balanced“, and “price“.

Microsoft Bing chat also lets users upload images.
