Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), a division of India’s Ministry of Labour and Employment, recently declare the removal of Aadhaar card from the list of acceptable documents for verifying the date of birth (DoB) for correction and updating purposes.
This decision follows a directive from UIDAI, as mention in the attach copy of the receive letter.
The circular, on 16th January, 2024, highlights the removal of Aadhaar Card from the list of permissible documents for correcting the date of birth, as specified in Table-B of Annexure-1 of the JD SOP.
As Aadhaar is widely recognise as a reliable proof of identity and address due to its unique 12-digit number issue by the Unique Identification Authority of India on behalf of the government, it is important to note that it is no longer consider a valid proof of date of birth (DoB).
After its distinctiveness and reliability for identification purposes, Aadhaar has exclude from the list of acceptable documents for correcting the date of birth, as per the EPFO circular.
List of New Documents Required for Changing Date of Birth in EPFO Account
As per an EPFO circular issue in August 2023, the following documents are necessary for updating the Date of Birth (DOB):
- Birth certificate issue by the Registrar of Births and Deaths
- Marksheet issue by any recognise government board or university with the School Leaving Certificate (SLC)/ School Transfer Certificate (TC)/ SSC certificate containing the name and Date of birth
- Certificate based on the service records of the Central/State Government Organisations
- In the absence of the aforemention proofs of date of birth, a Medical Certificate issue by a Civil Surgeon after a medical examination of the member, support by an affidavit on oath authenticate by a Competent Court
- Passport
- PAN issue by the IT department
- Central/State Pension Payment Order
- CGHS/ ECHS/ Medi-Claim Card issue by Centre/State/UTs Govts./PSUs with a Photo and Date of Birth
- Domicile Certificate issue by the Government.
