      Why Bengaluru-Mysuru Road Is Highway And Not An Expressway | Answer Inside

      National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has clarified that the recently upgrade Bengaluru-Mysuru highway is designate as an access-control national highway and not an expressway, as per report.

      Contrary to the usual 120 kmph speed limit on expressways, the maximum allowable speed on this road is set at 100 kmph.

      As per report, the clarification came after enforcement authorities began penalizing motorists exceeding the 100 kmph speed limit on the Bengaluru-Mysuru road, aiming to reduce road accidents.

      Some drivers express objections on social media, arguing that if the road is categorize as an expressway, the speed limit should align with the standard 120 kmph.

      Vivek Jaiswal, NHAI’s regional officer, said that their notifications explicitly specify the road as an access-controlled highway, not an expressway.

      He clarified that despite its expressway-like infrastructure, the speed limit regulations enforced by authorities are appropriate for an access-controlled highway, cap at 100 kmph.

      As per report, Vivek Jaiswal further point out recent notifications that set varying speed limits for different vehicle types using the main carriageway, ranging from 80 kmph to 100 kmph.

      Prior to its inauguration on 13th March 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter account had announce the project as the “Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway.”

      Also, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, and advertisements release by the former BJP government in the state had also refer to it as an expressway.

      The report also said that local authorities have deploy AI-based cameras and interceptors to enforce speed limits on the road effectively.

      ADGP (Traffic and Road Safety) Alok Kumar echoed NHAI’s clarification, confirming that the newly upgraded Bengaluru-Mysuru road is an access-controlled NH-275 maintain by NHAI and not an expressway.
