      BCCI May Introduce IPL 2.0 in New Format By 2024 : Report

      As per report, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is developing plans to introduce a IPL 2.0 franchise-based cricket competition, and the new league could be set for its first season in 2024.

      BCCI is considering the new league to be play in an even shorter format, the T10 format.

      Board of Control for Cricket in India, secretary Jay Shah is working on the blueprint of the league, which has the support of various stakeholders, including sponsors.

      BCCI has identified a window to conduct the league in the months of September and October.

      The report also said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India is contemplating a number of issues in regards to the league, with the biggest one being the format.

      As per the proposal things stand is for a T10 league, there are deliberations going on whether they should stick to the T20 format for the new league.

      Also there is yet to be decide whether the new league should have an age cap to protect the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) popularity.

      It also remains to be seen how teams are sold for the tournament and whether a fresh tender is sold or whether the existing IPL teams get a right to first refusal.

      The venue of the tournament is yet to be decide, whether it is play in India or taken to a new venue each year.

      The report also said that insiders claiming a new league could have major ramifications for bilateral cricket and the sport moving towards franchise-based leagues, with the 50-over format facing a major threat in particular.
