UPDATE : WhatsApp Update Enables Larger Media Previews in Chats
In new update WhatsApp now shows larger media previews in chats. Bigger media previews will let you scroll through chats without having to open the images or videos shared. WhatsApp announce on Twitter to the rollout of larger media previews.

The photo preview is much bigger than the small square preview visible till the last update.
WhatsApp for iOS users start getting this feature with version 2.21.71.
Android users can update the app to the latest version and try to send any media to see the changes.
