World’s Largest Aircraft Successfully Takes Flight On Fuel Which is Made From Cooking Oil

We all know Airbus A380 as the gargantuan aircraft that has shatter engineering barriers to become this beautiful yet massive bird. But now, Airbus A380 looks like it could be on the path to becoming more sustainable.

As per report by CNN, the Airbus A380 recently complete a trial flight while being power on cooking oil.

The Airbus A380 aircraft took off from Blagnac Airport in Toulouse on 25th March 2022, being power by Sustainable Aviation Fuel that’s essentially made up of cooking oil and waste.

The whole journey was carry out by just one Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine.

Airbus A380 took another test flight on 29th March 2022 with another Airbus’ A380 using the same fuel on a journey from Toulouse to Nice.

The second flight look at the fuel’s performance during take-off and landing.

The SAF, develop by TotalEnergies from France is made from ‘Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids’ or HEFA and is also free of sulfur and aromatics.

This isn’t the first Airbus aircraft to have successfully flown on SAF.

The wide-body Airbus A350 has made this flight in March 2021, as well as the single-aisle A319neo on last October.

Airbus wishes to get all of its fleet to be certified to run on SAF by the end of this decade.

Now Airbus A380 is certified to be power by up to 50% SAF mix with traditional kerosene.

The company is also working to bring the world’s first net-zero emission aircraft in the market by 2035.
